Johann Michael Leonhard

Johann Michael Leonhard (born September 23, 1782 in Grafenwörth ; † January 19, 1863 in Vienna ) was an Austrian clergyman, bishop of St. Pölten and apostolic field vicar .

Life

He received on August 23, 1806 Vienna , the Diakonen- and the next day the priesthood and was in the clergy of the Archdiocese of Vienna incardinated .

From 1815 at the latest, he was the kuk Hofkapellan, and from 1818 at the latest he was also Director Spiritualis of the higher educational institute for secular priests of St. Augustine and supervisor of the German schools in Vienna.

On December 15, 1828 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Vienna and at the same time appointed titular bishop of Alalis . He was consecrated as a bishop by the Archbishop of Vienna Leopold Maximilian von Firmian , co-consecrator was Bishop Aristaces Azarian CMV, Abbot General of the Vienna Mechitarists .

Johann Michael Leonhard was elected bishop of the diocese of St. Pölten on February 20, 1835, the election was confirmed on April 6, 1835, and on May 24, 1835 he took office. As early as November 19, 1835, he was appointed Apostolic Vicar of the Imperial and Royal Army (military bishop) as the successor to Michael Johann Wagner , while Bishop Wagner was to become his successor in the diocese of St. Pölten. For this reason, on February 1, 1836, the titular diocese of Diocletianopolis in Palestine was transferred to him.

He remained Apostolic Field Vicar until the end of his life.
