Vincent Cheap

Vinzenz Billig (born April 2, 1777 in Teschen ; † September 24, 1832 in Vienna ) was Apostolic Field Vicar of the Austro-Hungarian Army from 1831 to 1832 .

Life

Cheap was ordained a priest in 1800 and was field chaplain with Infantry Regiment No. 7 from 1803 . As such, he experienced the battles of Caldiero (1805) and Hausen (1809) and was awarded the Silver Spiritual Cross of Merit for his services.

In 1809 Billig was transferred to the Imperial and Royal Arcièren Life Guards as a chaplain and in 1814 appointed field superior and honorary canon of the cathedral chapter in Seckau. In 1827 he was appointed field consistorial director and succeeded the late Apostolic Field Vicar Josef Alois Schachtner on February 28, 1831 . At the same time he was appointed titular abbot of Lébény ( Hungary ) by Emperor Franz I.
