Joseph Chrysostom Pauer

Joseph Chrysostomus Pauer (born June 29, 1756 in Vienna , † December 19, 1826 in St. Pölten ) was diocesan bishop of the diocese of St. Pölten from 1824 to 1826 .

Life

Pauer was initially a novice among the Jesuits and, after the abolition of the Jesuit order in 1773, moved to the House of Professorship (Michaelerhaus) of the Barnabites at the Church of St. Michael on Michaelerplatz in Vienna.

After he was ordained a priest , he was employed in the teaching office and in pastoral care . In 1794 he was chaplain of the aristocratic German bodyguard and worked in all offices of the field consistory. In 1796 he was superior , in 1806 director of the field consistory and in 1815 apostolic vicar of the Austro-Hungarian army and titular bishop of Dulma . He was provost of Altbunzlau and honorary canon of St. Pölten and Gran .

In 1823 he was appointed Bishop of St. Pölten while retaining the Apostolic Field Vicariate. In this capacity he rendered great services, including the content regulation of the garrison and Spitalskapläne to adoption of instructions on the introduction and retention of military parish registers and to secure the field superiors granted Anrechtes on Ehrenkanonikate.
