Eugen Bodart

Eugen Bodart (born October 8, 1905 in Kassel , † 1981 in Munich ) was a German conductor and composer .

Life

Bodart received private lessons in music theory, piano, organ, flute and viola during his school days and founded his own orchestra during this time. From 1922 to 1925 he studied on a scholarship at the Leipzig Conservatory . Then he attended a master class with Hans Pfitzner . He was also a student of Emil Nikolaus von Reznicek . From 1926 to 1929 he was musical and literary director at the Südwestrundfunk Frankfurt-Kassel in Kassel.

From 1933 Bodart was 2nd Kapellmeister and répétiteur at the Nationaltheater Weimar . From 1935 to 1939 he was Kapellmeister in Cologne, then until 1943 General Music Director and Artistic Director in Altenburg. He then succeeded Karl Elmendorff as general music director of the Mannheim National Theater until it was closed.

After the war, Bodart lived as a freelance composer and conductor. In 1952 he founded the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester , for which he reconstructed numerous works from the Mannheim School . He also composed around 90 of his own works, including four operas, orchestral works, chamber music and piano works. From 1956 to 1958 he was general music director in Kaiserslautern.
