Hemaiag Bedros XVII. Guedikian CAM ( Armenian : Հմայեակ Պետրոս ԺԷ. Կետիկեան; * October 2, 1905 in Trabzon , Ottoman Empire ; † November 28, 1998 in Bzommar , Lebanon ) was the seventeenth Armenian Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia .

Life

On October 19, 1930, Hemaiag Guedikian was ordained a priest of the Mechitarists (CAM). As Abbot General of the Mechitarists, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Chersonesus in Zechia on May 30, 1971 and at the same time appointed Patriarchal Vicar of Cilicia . Guedikian was by his predecessor Iknadios Bedros XVI. Batanian and co-consecrators Archbishop Georges layeK of Aleppo and Bishop Garabed Amadouni , Apostolic Exarch of the Eparchy of France consecrated bishop. He was a participant in the third and fourth session of the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965). As the successor to the Patriarch of Cilicia, he was named Hemaiag Bedros (Peter) XVII. Guedikian was elected seventeenth patriarch and enthroned on July 3, 1976 . After the age rules, he was on 30 May 1982 emeritus and remained until his death on November 28, 1998 Altpatriarch of Cilicia.
