Vartán Waldir Boghossian

Vartán Waldir Boghossian SDB (born February 27, 1940 in Penápolis , São Paulo , Brazil ) is a Brazilian clergyman and emeritus Armenian Catholic Bishop of Buenos Aires and Apostolic Exarch of Latin America and Mexico .

Life

Vartán Waldir Boghossian was ordained a religious priest of the Salesians of Don Bosco on December 22nd, 1966 . On July 3, 1981, he was appointed Apostolic Exarch of Latin America and Mexico and Titular Bishop of Mardin degli Armeni . The Patriarch of Cilicia Archbishop Hemaiag Bedros XVII. Guedikian and the co-consecrators André Bedoglouyan ICPB , auxiliary bishop in the Patriarchate of Cilicia , and Mikail Nerses Setian , Apostolic Exarch of the United States and Canada , donated him on 12 December 1981, the episcopal ordination . He was named the first bishop of Buenos Aires on February 18, 1989. From 2001 to 2002 he was procurator for the Patriarchate of Cilicia in Rome . Bishop Boghossian was a member of the Argentine Bishops' Conference .

On July 4, 2018, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.

Middle East Synod

Boghossian was a participant in the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the Middle East and made the demand that all Roman Catholic patriarchs of the Eastern Churches should be entitled to participate in a conclave , even if they were not cardinals . He justified this statement with the fact that according to the Codex Canonum Ecclesiarum Orientalium (Can. 55), the Eastern Churches were the fathers and leaders of their churches.
