Iknadios Bedros XVI. Batanian , also called Ignace Pierre XVI Batanian or Ignace Petros XVI. Batanian known, Armenian : Իգնատիոս Պետրոս ԺԶ Պաթանեան (* February 15, 1899 in Mardin , Turkey ; † October 9, 1979 in Bzommar , Lebanon ) was the sixteenth Patriarch of Cilicia of the Armenian Catholic Church .
Life
Iknadios Batanian was ordained a priest on June 29, 1921 . On August 5, 1933, he was appointed Bishop of Mardin and on October 29, 1933 Archbishop Avedis Bedros XIV. Arpiarian , the Patriarch of Cilicia, gave him episcopal ordination . On August 10, 1940, he was appointed titular archbishop of Gabula and on December 6, 1952, he took over the archbishopric of Aleppo . With the call to patriarchal vicar and auxiliary bishop in the Patriarchate of Cilicia, he was appointed titular archbishop of Colonia in Armenia .
On September 4, 1962 he was named Iknadios Bedros (Petrus) XVI. Batanian elected Patriarch of Cilicia. This election by the Armenian Catholic Synod of Bishops was confirmed by the Holy See on November 15, 1962 . In accordance with the provisions age he was on 22 April 1976 emeritus . From 1969 to 1976 he was President of the Armenian Catholic Synod of Bishops and from 1962 to 1965 he was a participant in the four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . During his tenure, he renewed the monastery of the Patriarchal Congregation of Bzommar and built an Armenian Catholic orphanage in Ainjar (Lebanon) .

- ↑ Note: The Archdiocese of Mardin (Turkey) was dissolved in 1954 and assigned to the Archeparchy of Baghdad (Armenians) . In 1972 the titular diocese of Mardin degli Armeni was founded and in 1992 it was promoted to titular archbishopric.
