Avedis Bedros XIV. Arpiarian , also Avedis Petrus XIV. Arpiarian , (born April 13, 1856 in Eghin , Turkey ; † October 26, 1937 ) was the fourteenth Armenian Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia . He was known as the "kind father" among Armenian Catholic Christians.

Life

Avedis Arpiarian was ordained a priest in March 1884 . Avedis Arpiarian, like his relative Arpiar Arpiarian, was an author and writer . Because of this relationship and his writings, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire , Abdülhamid II , asked him to take over the office of Patriarchal Vicar of Cilicia.

On September 23, 1890, he was appointed Bishop of Karput in Turkey. In November 1890 Patriarch donated him Stephano Bedros X Azarian the episcopal ordination . When he was appointed titular archbishop of Anazarbus on April 20, 1898, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the Patriarchate of Cilicia. Between 1905 and 1909 the archbishop had to live in exile and stayed in Bzommar ( Lebanon ).

The next appointment followed on August 27, 1911, he was appointed archbishop pro hac vice of Maraş and was also the successor of the incumbent Patriarch Boghos Bedros XIII. Terzian designated . From 1928 to 1931 he was again in office as auxiliary bishop in Cilicia. The Synod of the Armenian Catholic Church elected him its Patriarch on October 9, 1931. Pope Pius XI (1922-1939) confirmed him on March 13, 1933 in office.

At Jean Couzian ICPB he was co-consecrator to the Bishop of Iskanderiya in Egypt.

He was the first editor of a patriarchal magazine , which later developed into the newspaper of the Armenian Catholic Church and was named "Avedik" in memory of the first publisher. In a second function, he was Archbishop of Beirut and Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy Ispahan in Iraq from 1931 to 1937 .
