Raphaël Bayan ICPB (born February 28, 1914 in Zgharta , Lebanon , † September 21, 1999 ) was an Armenian Catholic bishop and headed the Iskanderiya Eparchy in Egypt .

Life

Raphaël Bayan was ordained a religious priest of the Patriarchal Congregation of Bzommar (ICPB) on November 1, 1937 . On December 12, 1958, he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Iskanderiya with simultaneous appointment as titular bishop of Taua . The Pro-Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples Grégoire-Pierre Agagianian and the co-consecrators Archbishop Iknadios Batanian of Aleppo and the auxiliary bishop in Beirut Lorenzo Sahag Koguian consecrated him on 6 January 1959, Bishop. On July 2, 1960, he followed the late bishop to the bishopric of Iskanderiya. During his tenure he was a participant in the four sessions of the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965). He consecrated the later Patriarch of Cilicia Nerses Bedros XIX. for priests .
