Eleanor Audley

Eleanor Audley (born November 19, 1905 in New York City , New York ; as Eleanor Zellman , † November 25, 1991 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress and voice actress. She is known worldwide as the spokesperson for many female evil characters in Walt Disney's films.

Life

Audley made his first professional experience as an actress in the 1940s and 1950s on the radio. She was in the radio plays Escape , Suspence and My Favorite Husband . In 1953 she played the role of stepmother in the film The six shotter for the first time in front of the camera .

In 1950, the Walt Disney Studios were able to win Audley for their films. In the masterpiece Cinderella , she spoke of Cinderella's evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine . With her powerful voice, Audley mastered this job excellently and so she stayed with Disney longer. In 1959 she spoke her most successful role: In Sleeping Beauty she spoke the evil fairy Maleficent. Thanks to Audley's voice, this character is one of the most popular Disney characters. Parts of Eleanor Audley's recordings are available in every language version.

Both as Malefiz and Lady Tremaine, Audley was the model for the Disney cartoonists. In addition, she can still be heard in the Haunted Mansion attraction as Madame Leota in the Magic Kingdom .

Her German voices were Friedel Schuster (Cinderella) and Gisela Reissmann (Sleeping Beauty).

After working with Disney, she got into the television business. Before that she played in various shows in 1950. She played the role of Mrs. Teaseley in the western series Pistolen und Petticoats (original title: Pistols 'n' Petticoats), which was successful in Germany in the 1960s . In 1970 she retired. Eleanor Audley succumbed to respiratory failure on November 25, 1991 at the age of 86 . She rests in the Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.
