George Randall Gibson (* 2. October 1905 in Kendaia , New York ; † 19th August 2004 in Midland , Texas ) was an American American football poker players and - coach . He played in the National Football League (NFL) with the Minneapolis Red Jackets and the Frankford Yellow Jackets .

Player career

College career

George Gibson was born in Kendaia, but grew up in Medford , Oklahoma , where he also attended high school. From 1925 he studied geology at the University of Minnesota and played there with Bronko Nagurski for the Minnesota Golden Gophers College Football . In 1928, George Gibson was the team captain of the Golden Gophers and was voted All American for his athletic achievements . Gibson completed his geology degree in 1929 and joined the Minneapolis Red Jackets, an American football team from the National Football League (NFL).

Player and coach career

Gibson took the position of player-coach with the Red Jackets in 1930. The team around Fullback Oran Pape got into financial problems in the course of the season, as the spectators stayed away from home games due to bad weather conditions in Minneapolis . Eleven players from the Red Jackets and George Gibson then switched to the Frankford Yellow Jackets . Gibson ended his career as a player-coach after five games in Philadelphia . After the season he was voted All Pro .

George Gibson returned to the University of Minnesota and resumed his geology studies and received his PhD in 1934. As a lecturer and football coach , he moved to Carleton College . In 1936 he won the Midwest Conference with the Carleton Knights . After four years he ended his coaching activity.

After the career

Gibson moved to Midland and worked as a geologist in the oil industry. George Gibson was married with two sons, he died at the age of 98 and was buried at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland .
