Seinabo Sey [ seɪnabo siː ] (born October 7, 1990 in Halmstad ) is a Swedish soul pop singer .

biography

Seinabo Sey grew up partly in Gambia, the home of her father, who is himself a singer. She returned to Sweden and moved to the capital Stockholm . As a teenager she wrote her own songs and later worked with Swedish musicians such as rappers Stor and Linda Pira. Maskinen and Oskar Linnros accompanied her on tour. Together with producer Frank Nobel, she formed the duo Def Chronic . They made their first publications in 2010 and received a lot of attention, but they didn't make a breakthrough.

Eventually, Sey was signed by Universal Music . Magnus Lidehäll, who among other things had produced a number one album for Veronica Maggio , recorded the solo debut single Younger with her , which was released in late 2013. In particular, the remix by Norwegian DJ Kygo from Bergen was a great success. Within three months, the song was viewed over 4 million times as a stream on the Swedish market leader Spotify and was named Spotlight 2014 . On the own Soundcloud page, there were again as many views. She was also successful in the Swedish single charts.

At the end of February she performed at the By: Larm Festival in Oslo, Norway . After the single was released in the neighboring country, it reached number one on the charts in Norway at the end of May . Outside of Scandinavia, the song could only be placed in Austria.

In September the single Pistols at Dawn was released . The song was also very popular in advertising and was used by Mercedes in car advertising and by Ubisoft in the trailer for the computer game Assassin's Creed Unity .
