Maskinen (Swedish for the machine ) is an electro and hip hop group from Sweden founded in 2007 . The group consists of the rapper Herbert "Afasi" Munkhammar and the musician Frej Larsson from the Swedish bitpop formation Slagsmålsklubben .

biography

On November 4, 2007, the band released the first single with the provocative title Alla som inte dansar (är våldtäktsmän) , which means in German translation All who don't dance are rapists . The single was released on the Swedish label Pope Records . The release of the song was followed by an extensive debate in Sweden. On January 9, 2008, Maskinen and Pope Records were sued by a 32-year-old man who felt personally attacked by the title. The lawsuit was later dropped as the text did not contain any legally prohibited content.

Swedish rapper Hans Oskar "Kihlen" Linnros was part of the group until the release of the second single Segertåget (Swedish for the triumphal procession ), but left it after it was released.

The debut album Boys II Men was released on November 18, 2008.

From the founding year 2007 to 2010 the band played almost exclusively in Sweden. They had their first big appearance in Germany on July 17th, 2010 at the Melt Festival .

On October 10th, 2011 the single Krossa alla fönster (Swedish for smash all windows ) was released. The music video that reminds the Swedish King Carl XVI. Gustaf- like man on a hunting trip, drinking binge and with naked strippers attracted brief media attention in Sweden.

The second studio album Framgång & Efterfrågan (Swedish for success and demand ) was released on March 27, 2012. The title refers to the unexpected success that Frej Larsson and Herbert Munkhammar had with Maskinen as well as the great demand for the follow-up album to Boys II Men , That the fans had to wait more than two years.

On September 17, 2015, the single Håll din anda was released in collaboration with the Swedish musician Joy .

style

music

The band Maskinen mixes electronic music with hip-hop and creates a style that is comparable to the German band Deichkind . Due to the collaborations on her debut album Boys II Men with Brazilian musicians like Bonde do Rolê (for the song Flow Ball ) and Marina Gasolina (for the song Dansa med vapen ), there are also clear influences from the Rio Funk in some of the songs .

Texts

The lyrics of the band are mainly written in Swedish . The songs, which were written in collaboration with Brazilian musicians, contain refrains and vocal parts in Brazilian Portuguese . The song Segertåget also has a Portuguese chorus, the text of which comes from a song by the Brazilian band Axé Bahia . On the second album Framgång & Efterfrågan , all lyrics are in Swedish throughout.
