Movits! is a band from Luleå in northern Sweden that play a mix of swing , interspersed with hip-hop elements in Swedish .

history

The band became known with their debut album Äppelknyckarjazz ( Eng . "Äpfel-Klauer-Jazz"). It was published in November 2008 and became known in Sweden through an article in the Swedish daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter . Comedy Central Records brought the album out in the United States and also helped the band to a certain degree of popularity in the United States through an appearance on the Colbert Report show .

The name "Movits!" is a loan from Fader Movitz, a character from the song and poetry collection Fredmans epistlar (Fredmans Epistle) by the Swedish author and composer Carl Michael Bellman from the 18th century.

The band played five times at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Showcase in Austin, Texas.
