Roland Gagnier

Roland Gagnier (born May 17, 1905 in Montreal , † July 24, 1975 there ) was a Canadian bassoonist and music teacher.

Gagnier was trained by his father, Jean-Josaphat Gagnier . He was principal bassoonist in the Canadian Grenadier Guards Band from 1925 to 1947 , and from 1940 to 1953 a member of the Société des concerts symphoniques de Montréal (later the Montreal Symphony Orchestra ). As a chamber musician, he was a member of the Gagnier Woodwind Quintet from 1942 to 1949 . He has appeared on numerous CBC radio and television programs .

From 1945 to 1950 Gagnier taught at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec . One of his students was the composer Pierre Mercure .
