Orla Rosenhoff

Orla Albert Vilhelm Rosenhoff (born October 1, 1844 in Copenhagen ; † June 4, 1905 there ) was a Danish composer and music teacher.

Life

The son of the music teacher Claudius Rosenhoff played guitar, flute and violin and was a piano student of Adolph Lund . From 1859 he studied music theory, composition and organ playing with Niels Wilhelm Gade . From 1867 he taught piano at the Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen, and from 1881 to 1892 he also taught harmony, counterpoint and fugue. His most important student was the composer Carl Nielsen , on whose work he had a lasting influence. His students also included the pianist and composer Hilda Sehested and the composer Tekla Griebel-Wandall .

In addition to music pedagogical works (including pedal study ), Rosenhoff et al. a. two concert overtures for orchestra, a string quintet and a string sextet, fantasy pieces for oboe and piano and songs. After leaving the conservatory, his students founded the Floridus Music Society to support him , and from 1895 he also received state support.
