Viktor Achter (lawyer)

Viktor Achter (born February 8, 1905 in Rheydt ; † August 16, 1981 in Mönchengladbach ) was a German lawyer and university professor and entrepreneur.

Life

Viktor Achter, son of the cloth manufacturer Viktor Achter , attended pre-school in Rheydt from 1911 to 1914. At Easter 1914 he switched to the humanistic high school in Mönchengladbach and passed his Abitur in 1923. He first studied art history , philosophy and music and later law at the universities in Bonn , Munich and Cologne . On August 3, 1927, he passed his first state examination in law. In 1928 he received his doctorate in law under Hans Carl Nipperdey at the University of Cologne with his thesis The delivery business in the German cloth industry .

From 1942 to 1945, Achter was chairman of the steering association Reichsvereinigung Textilveredelung , which was largely independent of the Nazi Ministry of Economics , whose main objective was "the rationalization of the cartel system in the textile finished goods industry, particularly in the merger of existing cartels".

He completed his habilitation in German legal history at the University of Cologne in 1948 and taught there as a private lecturer. In 1952 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Cologne.

Achter lived in Mönchengladbach and worked there from 1937 as a textile entrepreneur for the family company Viktor Achter GmbH & Co., Rheydt . He had a law firm in Cologne and worked as a lawyer and criminal defense attorney. From 1958 to 1977 he was President of the Mönchengladbach Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

In 1957 he was appointed Knight of the Papal Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Nicola Cardinal Canali and invested in Cologne on December 7, 1957 by Lorenz Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . He belonged to the Aachen Commandery. He was a Grand Cross Knight of the order.

In June 1992 his extensive library was auctioned at Hauswedell & Nolte in Hamburg, including 16 volumes from the library of Christian Truchseß von Wetzhausen .

He had been married to Lieselotte Höpp since 1933; the marriage had three children.
