Johann Heinrich August Fritz Ohde (* 20th November 1905 in Dumber, district Parum , district Ludwigslust-Parchim ; † 25. July 1953 in Dresden ) was a German civil engineer with a focus on geotechnical engineering .

Life

After an apprenticeship and work as a carpenter, he attended the municipal building school in Hamburg from 1924 to 1926, specializing in civil engineering. In 1926 he was at the water engineering department of the city of Hamburg. From 1927 he worked in the earthworks department of the Prussian Research Institute for Hydraulic Engineering , Earthworks and Shipbuilding , which was newly established by Hans-Detlef Krey .

At the end of the 1930s he published his first scientific publications. From 1944 he was an employee and deputy managing director (under Walter Bernatzik ) at the Institute for Earthworks of the TH Dresden and from 1946 managing director of the institute, at that time under the direction of Friedrich Wilhelm Neuffer .

From 1948 to 1951 Ohde was head of the foundation engineering department at the Research Institute for Shipping, Hydrology and Soil Science in Berlin, but also taught soil mechanics at the TH Dresden in Dresden. From 1951 until his death he worked as a professor for basic building mechanics at the TH Dresden.

At the Geotechnical Institute of today's Dresden University of Technology (TUD), the Johann Ohde Prize, donated by Bauer AG , is awarded annually for outstanding diploma theses, dissertations or post-doctoral theses in geotechnical engineering.

The Johann Ohde Colloquium of TUD and today's Federal Institute for Hydraulic Engineering (BAW) has existed since 1985 . Every two years, this colloquium took place alternately in Dresden and Berlin, the two places where Johann Ohde worked. It is currently taking place in Dresden and at the BAW site in Karlsruhe, since the Berlin site was closed at the beginning of the 2000s.
