Friedrich Wilhelm Neuffer (born October 28, 1882 in Stuttgart , † December 9, 1960 in Dresden ) was a German civil engineer and scientist .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Neuffer studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart . From 1905 Neuffer first worked in practice and participated in the execution of numerous structures (e.g. Hohenzollern Bridge Cologne, Bleialf Tunnel , Berlin S-Bahn ). As the technical manager of the Cologne branch and later technical director of Grün & Bilfinger AG in Mannheim , he was involved in setting up and implementing many projects.

In 1931 Neuffer was appointed professor for the teaching and research area “solid construction, timber construction, foundations and construction site facilities” at the Dresden University of Technology . In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler . From 1939 Neuffer headed the chair for solid construction and foundation engineering and also worked at the Institute for Earthwork at the TH Dresden; here he was responsible for questions about the basic structure. In 1945 he became director of the Institute for Earthworks. Even after his retirement in 1951, Neuffer remained head of the Institute for Foundation Engineering and Ground Mechanics until the summer of 1960.

In 1956 the Technical University of Braunschweig awarded him an honorary doctorate degree (Dr.-Ing. E. h.) "In recognition of his successful efforts to create new forms of solid bridges and to promote and further develop soil mechanics".

Friedrich Wilhelm Neuffer died on December 9, 1960 in Dresden. His grave is in the Weißer Hirsch forest cemetery in Dresden.

Honor

In 1982, the TU Dresden renamed the building of the Institute for Geotechnics in Neuffer-Bau.
