Walter Hase (born November 6, 1905 , † June 9, 2007 in Kiel ) was a German forester . He emerged primarily as a forest historian and author of two standard works on the forest and forest history of Schleswig-Holstein .

Life

Walter Hase, who came from the Ore Mountains , graduated from high school in Leipzig . Years of study in Tübingen , Leipzig and Tharandt followed , where he completed his forestry studies. After the exam for the higher private and community forest service in 1933, he initially found no employment. He used the following two years of unemployment to write studies on forest organization and forest history in Saxony . After he was accepted into the Prussian civil service in 1938, his professional career took him via Thuringia to Schleswig-Holstein in the Segeberger Heide , from there to the government forest office in Schleswig and finally to the state forest office in Kiel , where Walter Hase worked in the forest management department and was appointed forester .

In his "new" home in Schleswig-Holstein, too, Hase dealt with forest history issues, which led to numerous publications. So all forestry historical sections come in after the war, newly established forest management works of the State Forestry Administration of him. In the journal Forstarchiv he published, among other things, treatises on the cultivation of oak and beech as well as conifers in Schleswig-Holstein. More extensive representations were submitted in 1953 investigation forest property and forest supervision in Schleswig-Holstein and in 1964 in the series of communications from the German Weather Service published study The Book mast in Schleswig-Holstein and its dependence on the weather .

Even in retirement, Forstmeister a. D. Hase continued his research - which he financed himself - with great vigor. For this he, who did not drive a car, went to archives and forest offices by bus, train or on foot. The fruits of decades of historical studies were extensive books contribution to the history of forest management in Schleswig-Holstein (1981) and forest and forest chronology of Schleswig-Holstein since the post-glacial period (1997), both standard works in their field. Hase published further articles on forest history in specialist journals and homeland books. In 2001, at the old age of 95, he presented three smaller publications on Kiel City Forests.

Not least in recognition of his work on forest history, the state government awarded him the Schleswig-Holstein Medal in 1981 .

Forester a. D. Walter Hase died on June 9, 2007 in Kiel.
