Zakaria Goneim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Muhammad Zakaria Goneim ( Arabic زكريا غنيم, DMG Zakarīyā Ġunaim ; * 1905 ; † January 2, 1959 ) was an Egyptian Egyptologist .

He discovered the unfinished step pyramid of the Sechemchet (Djoser-Teti) from the 3rd dynasty in Saqqara ( Sechemchet pyramid ). As a result of the temporary disappearance of found objects and in view of the empty sarcophagus, the suspicion was expressed in the media that Goneim had embezzled objects or actively traded in antiques. He was relieved by the investigation of the French Egyptologist Jean-Philippe Lauer , who was able to properly locate a missing find in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo . However, the proof of Goneim's innocence came too late - the day before, Goneim had presumably thrown himself off a bridge over the Nile.
