Leonidas Zoras
Leonidas Zoras ( Greek Λεωνίδας Ζώρας , born February 23, 1905 in Sparta , † September 22, 1987 in Athens ) was a Greek composer.
Life
Zoras studied law at the University of Athens and at the same time conducting and composition with Manolis Kalomiris , Dimitri Mitropoulos and Emilios Riadis . He taught music theory at the National Conservatory from 1926 to 1938. Until 1940 he studied at the Berlin Music Academy with Walther Gmeindl , Clemens Schmalstich , Fritz Stein , Hermann Grabner , Paul Höffer and Boris Blacher . Until 1958 he worked as conductor of the Athens Opera House; then he conducted at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. In 1968 he became director of the National Odeon in Athens. He composed operas and ballets, a symphony , a symphonic sketch, a suite and a "legend" for orchestra, chamber music works, piano pieces, songs and drama music.
