Manolis Kalomiris
Manolis Kalomiris ( Greek Μανώλης Καλομοίρης ; * December 14, 1883 in Smyrna ; † April 3, 1962 in Athens ) was a Greek composer.
Kalomiris graduated from the Evangelical School of Smyrna and studied in Athens with Timotheos Xanthopoulos , in Constantinople with Sophia Spanoudi and from 1901 to 1906 in Vienna . From 1906 to 1910 he was a piano teacher at the Conservatory of Kharkov , after which he taught at the Athens Conservatory . In 1919 he founded the Greek Conservatory , which he directed until 1926. He then founded the National Conservatory . In 1947 he was elected President of the Greek Composers Association, in 1950 he became President of the National Opera.
Kalomiris composed five operas and several plays, three symphonies , a piano and a violin concerto, chamber music works, piano pieces and numerous songs . In addition, he published several music pedagogical works.
