Kangra ( Hindi : काँगड़ा , Kā̃gaṛā ) is a small town ( Municipal Council ) in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh . It belongs to the district of the same name .
location
The 706 m high city is located in the Siwaliks . Below the city the Manjhi flows into the Baner Khad , a tributary of the Pong Dam .
Residents
The city of Kangra had 9,528 inhabitants at the 2011 census. The literacy rate is 93.31%, far higher than the Indian average.
history
The historic city, once called Nagarkot , is home to the temples Jawalaji , Brijeshwari Devi , Chamunda Devi , Baba Baroh and Baijnath , among others . Another attraction is the Kangra Fort .
Kangra was the first seat of Raja Sansar Chand II (1775–1823).
tourism
The Kangra Valley Railway Station is in Kangra , a narrow-gauge railway that is also very popular with tourists and runs between Pathankot and Joginder Nagar . The train is on the candidate list as a world cultural heritage of UNESCO .
