The Pong Dam is a dam located on the Beas River in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh .
The dam is located in the Kangra district at a point where the Beas breaks through the Siwaliks ridge . The rock embankment dam with an earth core was built between 1961 and 1974. The dam was built for the purpose of irrigating agricultural land in Rajasthan . It is also used to generate electricity. 6 vertical Francis turbines of 66 MW each are installed in the power plant. The dam measures a length of 1950.7 m. The crown height is 435.86 m . That is 132.59 m above the foundation. The storage volume is 7290 million m³, the total storage space is 8570 million m³. The reservoir has a length of 41.8 km.
