Nils Ahrbom (born May 25, 1905 in Hudiksvall , † January 9, 1997 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish architect who was mainly known for his numerous school buildings .

Nils Ahrbom trained from 1927 at the Royal Technical University in Stockholm, after graduating he worked for the architect Ivar Tengbom for five years . At the Technical University he met Helge Zimdal , with whom he ran the architecture firm Ahrbom & Zimdahl from 1927 to 1950 . In 1931 they won the competition for the girls' school at Sveaplan in Stockholm. Both were related to modernity , which in Sweden is called functionalism.

Ahrbom, together with the architects Uno Åhrén , Sven Markelius , Sigurd Lewerentz and Paul Hedqvist , participated in the housing department of the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930 . Ahrbom's main area of ​​work was to be school construction. Together with Zimdal, he designed a large number of schools in many Swedish cities, such as Ludvika , Motala , Skara and Enköping . In Stockholm they drew a. a. the Eriksdalshallen , Eriksdalsskolan , Skanstulls gymnasium , Gubbängens folkskola and Gubbängens Gymnasium . Institutional, commercial and industrial buildings also came from the Ahrbom & Zimdal office , including for Scania Vabis in Södertälje and for Tetra Pak in Lund .

After 1950, the Ahrbon & Zimdahl partnership ended . Nils Ahrbom designed the Swedish embassies in Tokyo , Ankara , Beijing and Cairo (1971). 1942–63 he was professor at the Technical University in Stockholm and palace architect for Vadstena Palace .
