Helge Zimdal
Helge Zimdal (born April 27, 1903 , † October 3, 2001 ) was a Swedish architect who was mainly known for his numerous school buildings.
Helge Zimdahl studied from 1927 at the Royal Technical University in Stockholm and in 1930 at the Royal School of Art in Stockholm. At the Technical University he met his future partner Nils Ahrbom , with whom he ran the architecture firm Ahrbom & Zimdahl from 1927 to 1951.
In 1930 he was involved with Ahrbom in the housing section of the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930 . Later, however, housing was not to become his specialty, but schools.
Ahrbom & Zimdahl designed a large number of school buildings in Stockholm and other Swedish cities. In Stockholm the Sveaplans Gymnasium and the Skanstulls Gymnasium are among the most famous works, they are clearly in the style of modernism .
In 1951 the partnership between Zimdal and Ahrbom ended when Zimdal was appointed professor in architecture at Chalmers University in Gothenburg . There he designed the building for the architecture school in 1968. One of his last works is the design for the Swedish embassy in Brasília in 1974.
