Volyně [ ˈvɔlɪɲɛ ] (German Wolin ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located 10 kilometers south of Strakonice and describes itself as the "gateway to the Bohemian Forest " ( brána Šumavy ).

The state road Silnice I / 4 runs through the town on the Volyňka between Strakonice and the Bavarian border near Philippsreut .

The districts Černětice ( Tschernetitz ), Račí ( Ratschi ), Starov ( Starau ) and Zechovice ( Sechowitz ) belong to Volyně .
Neighboring communities
Neighboring towns are Němětice , Přechovice and Hoštice in the north, Milejovice in the northeast, Neuslužice and Litochovice in the east, Nišovice in the south, Zechovice and Doubravice u Volyně in the west and Nihošovice in the northwest.
history
The first written mention of Volyně comes from the year 1271. The Prague cathedral chapter granted the place town rights in 1299. The city fortifications and the parish church were built in 1327. In the 15th century, Volyně led a successful feud with the royal city of Písek because of the salt transport and toll revenues . The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was built on the Malsička hill in 1618 , a hall church in the Renaissance style. There was a large Jewish community in Wolin. After patrimonial was replaced , the city became the seat of a judicial district in 1850. In 1893 the railway from Strakonitz to Winterberg was inaugurated.
