Chlum [ xlʊm ] (German 1939–1945: Kulm ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located four kilometers northwest of Blatná in South Bohemia and belongs to the Okres Strakonice .

Geographical location

Chlum is located in the Blatenská pahorkatina hill country on a hill that slopes east into the valley of the Závišínský creek, west into the valley of the Hajanský potok and in the south to the valley of the Smolivecký potok . South of the village is the Hajanský rybník pond. In the north rise the Hora (522 m) and the U Nivy (534 m), to the northeast the Hliniční vrch (536 m), the Březová hora (495 m) and the Zelený vrch (522 m), in the east the Dubiny (529 m) m), to the southeast the Škalí (473 m) and to the south the Kupcový (485 m). East of the village, the state road II / 173 between Blatná and Bělčice and the railway line Březnice – Strakonice lead through the valley of the Závišínský potok.

Archaeological finds prove an early settlement of the area. Between Chlum and Bezdědovice cremations and grave mounds from the late were Hallstatt and early Latènezeit found. The remains of a settlement and 19 graves are dated to the beginning of the era. On the Hora finds from the middle castle wall period were made, to which the gold soaps can also be assigned.

The first written mention of the village of Chlum, which belonged to the archbishopric of Rosental , took place in 1349. At that time, Chlum consisted of 14 hooves, which were divided among 21 owners. In 1456, the Zmrzlík von Schweising acquired the village and assigned it to the Schluesselburg rule . Later they parish around Chlum from Blatná to Kocelovice . In 1598 the village consisted of 15 farms, a chaluppe and a kretscham . In 1619 there were nine farmers and one Chalupner in Chlum; In 1648 there were 14 farmers, two Chalupners, one Kretschmer and three residents. At the end of the 17th century, the Counts Rozdrazowsky von Rozdrazow Chlum bought the lordship of Schlüsselburg and added it to their lordship of Blatna. In 1709 Josef Count Serényi von Kis-Serény acquired the rule. In 1715, Chlum consisted of 14 farmers, two Chalupners, a poor house, a smithy and six residents. The Count Serényi placed new burdens on the subjects. In 1716, the residents of Chlum and Hájany unsuccessfully complained about excessive labor against the stately civil servant Matěj Golba. In 1738 another rebellion broke out among the subjects in the rule, which was suppressed by the military. In 1798 the barons Hildprandt von und zu Ottenhausen acquired the rule. In 1825 there were 30 houses in Chlum. In 1840, Chlum consisted of 33 houses with 203 inhabitants. The parish was Blatna . Until the middle of the 19th century, Chlum was always subject to the Blatná rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial Chlum formed from 1850 with the district Paračov as well as the Vorwerkshof Bezdědovice and the mill Hodáň a municipality in the district administration and the judicial district Blatná. The voluntary fire brigade was founded in 1898. The following year, the Březnice – Strakonice railway began operations. Chlum had 309 inhabitants each in 1900 and 1910. The railway connection favored the operation of numerous quarries around Blatná. In 1920 there were 337 people living in the village, 311 of them in Chlum and 26 in Paračov. In 1930 Chlum was connected to the electricity network. In 1940 the community started a quarry on the Škalí hill. This was nationalized after the Second World War and continued to be operated by the Příbram stone industry . In the course of the abolition of the Okres Blatná, Chlum was assigned to the Okres Strakonice in 1960. On January 1, 1974 the incorporation to Blatná took place. Since the beginning of 1993, Chlum has again formed its own community. Chlum today consists of 65 houses and had 170 inhabitants on January 1, 2002.
