Okres Strakonice ( Strakonice District) is located in the west of Jihočeský kraj ( Czech Republic ) and is one of the smallest districts in the country. Around 69,000 inhabitants live on 1,032 km² in 112 communities with 263 districts. The Otava flows through the district and there are also some ponds. Mainly building material is extracted in the mountains.
economy
Even after structural changes, the district remained heavily industrialized. Most of the industrial plants are located in Strakonice, Blatná and Vodňany . In agriculture, besides potatoes, grain, sugar beet and animal feed are also grown; livestock farming focuses on cattle, pigs and poultry.
Around 14,000 companies employ 35,000 people, more than a third of them in industry, around a tenth in agriculture and a further tenth in trade. Unemployment is 6.8%. The district is further divided into four micro-regions: Strakonicko , Blatensko , Vodňansko and Volyňsko .

- Archaeological finds of early settlement exhibited in the museum in Strakonice , as well as the Strakonice Castle , formerly the seat of Lord Bavor von Strakonitz , later the Knights of Malta

- Blatná moated castle and chateau , with a preserved castle system and numerous ponds in the area
- Ruins of Helfenburg Castle
- the protected area of "Žižkovo Bojiště u Sudoměře", the place where Jan Žižka his battle on 25. March 1420 won
- Folk architecture in many old villages
Around 53,000 visitors find their way to the district every year, around 14,000 of them from abroad.
