history

At Poříčí there was probably a settlement of gold seifners already at the time of the Celtic settlement . The first written mention of Poříčí took place in 1315. Later the settlement was divided into two villages: Horní Poříčí was subject to Prácheň, Dolní Poříčí belonged to Střelské Hoštice. After Bavor III. von Strakonitz had acquired the Prácheň castle ( Prachin ), he combined their goods with those of the Strakonice castle . In 1336 the childless Wilhelm Bavor von Strakonitz signed the rule of Strakonitz to the Sovereign Order of Malta . The main source of income in both villages was agriculture, with fishing and pearl fishing also playing a major role. In late autumn, the salmon migrated up the river to spawning grounds on the Vydra . In 1840 the village of Ober Pořitsch or Vorder Pořitsch on Klattauer Strasse consisted of 39 houses with 256 inhabitants. A rustic mill with a board saw belonged to the place. The parish was Hoschtitz . Until the middle of the 19th century, the village always remained subservient to Strakonitz.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Horní Poric / upper Poric 1850 a municipality in the district administration Strakonice and the judicial district Horažďovice . Horní Poříčí has been used as an official place name since 1880 . Due to the decline in the freshwater pearl mussel stocks, pearl fishing was stopped in 1908. The bridge over the Otava was built in 1927. After the Second World War, the increasing pollution of the rivers led to the absence of salmon. In the 1960s, the river pearl mussels were completely extinct. The traditional timber rafting on the Otava was discontinued in the 1960s. In 1949 the municipality was assigned to the newly created Okres Horažďovice, after its abolition it came back to Okres Strakonice in 1960. 1964 Horní Poříčí was merged with Dolní Poříčí to the municipality Poříčí . On January 1, 1974 it was incorporated into Střelské Hoštice . After a referendum, Horní Poříčí and Dolní Poříčí broke away from Střelské Hoštice on November 24, 1990 and formed their own community. There is a Charles University training center not far from Kubešův mlýn.
