The Vydra (German Widra ) is the right source river of the Otava in the Bohemian Forest , Czech Republic .
course
It arises in the municipality of Modrava in the Šumava biosphere reserve through the confluence of the Modravský potok (Maderbach) and Roklanský potok (Rachelbach / Großer Müllerbach) , which are fed from the extensive high moor complex of the Maderer Filze , and the Filipohuťský potok (Hanifbach) . The catchment area covers 146.2 km², the river length is 23.1 km. Part of the water is drained below Modrava at the Rechel Bridge into the Chinitz-Tettau alluvial canal . The touristic section between Antýgl (Antigelhof) and Čeňkova pila (Vinzenzsäge) has the character of a torrent with many rapids , boulders and irregular swells in the river bed.
The Otava is formed by the confluence of the Vydra and the Křemelná River .
Between 1949 and 1950 a general project for a Modrava hydropower plant was drawn up. The facility planned for the 1960s provided for a 45.5 m or 60 m high dam on the Vydra 450 m north of Modrava. The entire village of Modrava and the lower parts of the Modravské slatě in the valleys of the Modravský potok and Roklanský potok would have been flooded by the reservoir with an area of 290 and 450 ha . The backwater at Roklanský potok would have reached over five kilometers to Javoří Pila . The project was discarded until the planned start of construction.
