The Chinitz-Tettauer Schwemmkanal ( Vchynicko-Tetovský plavební kanál in Czech ) is a raft ditch in the Bohemian Forest . It was created to bypass the Vydra ( Widra ) torrent, which is heavily interspersed with logs and therefore unsuitable for logging .

history

After Joseph II von Schwarzenberg had acquired Stubenbach from Count Joseph Kinsky in 1799 , he had the Kaltenbrunn alluvial canal built between 1799 and 1800 under the direction of his forest engineer Joseph Rosenauer for the economic exploitation of the lord's timber wealth . In the course of time, the name Chinitz-Tettauer Schwemmkanal, based on the town of Chinitz-Tettau at the origin of the canal, established itself . The woodcutter settlements of Schätzewald, Schätzereith, Mosau and Grünberg were built along the flood canal.

course

The canal begins below the former Ebenmühle on the Rechel Bridge between the deserts of Preisleiten and Vchynice ( Chinitz ). It initially runs on the left side of the Vydra to Antýgl ( Antiglhof ) to the north. Thereafter be run via Schätzův Les ( estimating forest ) west to Schätzova MyT ( estimating Reith ) where it takes northern direction and by the Kostelní vrch ( Kruheberg , 1014 m) is performed. Past Mühlnazl, Zelená Hora ( Grünberg ), Zelenohorský Dvorec ( Grünbergerhof ), Mechov ( Mosau ) and Horky u Srní ( Seckerberg ) the canal leads to Sedlo ( Sattelberg ), where it crosses the Plavební potok ( Seckerbach ) into the Křemelná ( Kieslingbach) ) ended. Later a direct drain to the Křemelná was created by means of piping northwest of Sedlo. The alluvial channel runs along its entire length in the territory of the municipality of Srní ( Rehberg ). Its total length is 13.6 kilometers, the last 500 m between Sedlo and Křemelná run underground. At the Lochmühle, a five-kilometer-long underground water supply branches off to the Čeňkova pila hydropower plant (Vinzenzsäge) . A marked cycle path leads along most of its route.

The Chinitz-Tettauer Schwemmkanal is now a technical monument . It is located in the north-western part, its "big brother", the Schwarzenbergsche Schwemmkanal ( Schwarzenberský plavební kanál ) is located in the southeastern part of the Bohemian Forest.
