history

Vacovice was probably founded during the colonization of the border forests during the reign of Ottokar II Přemysl . It is also assumed that the knight Vojéř Šaška von Vašovice, mentioned as a witness in the royal summons ( desky půhonné ) in 1297, is associated with the village. Its origin was assigned to an extinct village near Žatec by both Sedláček and Otto's Konversationslexikon , but at the same time with Šaška from Vašovice a gentleman from Vimperk was listed as another witness. Peter von Vacovice in 1436 and the Strakonice burgrave Kryštof Saska von Vacovice in 1566 are known as members of this family. The latter is considered to be the father of the beloved Peter Wok von Rosenberg and the White Wife of Soběslav, the legendary Zuzana Vojířová from Vacovice . So far, however, no evidence of a festival of the knights Šaška Vojíř has been found in Vacovice.

The first written mention of the village belonging to the Čestice manor was in 1467. Some evidence suggests that the village previously belonged to the Gans Castle . After the battle of the White Mountain , the goods of Johann von Malowetz were confiscated and in 1628 Čestice was sold to Jakob Graf Kießel. Other owners were from 1702 u. a. the Říčanský of Říčan, then again the knights of Malowetz; later Count Franz Taaffe and from 1832 Joseph Ludwig Malabaila von Canal. In 1840 Watzowitz consisted of 33 houses with 245 inhabitants. The parish was Dobrš ( Dobř ). Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to the Čestitz estate.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Vacovice / Wacowitz with the districts Dřešín and Chvalšovice 1850 a municipality in the district administration Strakonice and the judicial district Volyně . Because of the altitude and the stony soils, the agricultural yield was so low that the residents had to make a living by weaving at home. Mainly flax was grown. The popular saying that life in Vacovice, Krušlov and Ptákova Lhota is as bad as even the devil would have it comes from this period. The seat of the municipal office in Vacovice could only be reached by the residents of the districts via long detours or impassable routes through the Peklov valley. In 1909, Dřešín and Chvalšovice finally broke away from Vacovice and formed their own communities. As a result of the industrialization of weaving, home weaving became more and more uneconomical. The last loom in Vacovice was in operation until 1928. On February 1, 1949 Vacovice was assigned to the Okres Vimperk. After the dissolution of the Okres Vimperk, the municipality became part of the Okres Strakonice on July 1, 1960. In 1964 it was incorporated into Nahořany. With this together Vacovice was slammed on June 1, 1975 Čestice. After a referendum, the village broke away from Čestice on November 24, 1990 and formed its own municipality. Vacovice carries a coat of arms and a banner.
