Yuri Petrovich Korchagin ( Russian Юрий Петрович Корчагин ; born November 25, 1950 in Voronezh ) is a Russian diplomat .

Life

Korchagin is married to Natalija Korchagina, their daughters are Anastasia and Alexandra. From 1969 to 1971 he was in the Red Army . Until 1977 he studied history and literature at the University of Friendship of Nations . In 1977 he joined the foreign service. He was Deputy Director of the Latin America Department.

From 1977 to 1981 he worked at the Embassy of the Soviet Union in Mexico City . He then worked in the representations of international organizations: 1984 in Geneva and 1985 in Paris . From 1986 to 1991 he worked at the Embassy of the Soviet Union in Lima , Peru . In 1994 he was a member of the United Nations Operation Observer Mission in Mozambique . From 1995 to 1999 he was Deputy Head of the Russian Embassy in Buenos Aires , Argentina .

On February 26, 2003, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Bogotá , where he was accredited until June 24, 2004.

On July 13, 2004, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Buenos Aires , where he was accredited until July 7, 2009. At the same time he was also accredited by the government in Asunción , Paraguay .

From 2009 to February 20, 2012, he headed the Latin America department in the Russian Foreign Ministry. On February 20, 2012, President Dmitri Anatolyevich Medvedev appointed him ambassador to Madrid .
