The Březový potok is a left tributary of the Otava in the Czech Republic .

course

The Březový potok rises northeast of Strážovice in the Blatenská pahorkatina. Its source is at the southern foot of the Plesník (605 m). The upper reaches of the Březový potok initially leads in an easterly direction through Pačejov-nádraží, where the stream is bridged by the České Budějovice – Plzeň railway line . The Březový potok then takes a south-easterly direction and is dammed near Ovčín in the Velký Blýskota pond. Via Jetenovice, U Pazderny, Velký Bor , Babín, U Lesů, Střelskohoštická Lhota and Zadní Hoštice, the Březový potok reaches the Otava after 21.3 km at the Katovická hora (493 m) between Dolní Poříčí and Katovice .

The entire course of the Březový potok is sparsely populated. In the upper part of its catchment area there are numerous ponds, including the Kozčínský rybník, the Myslívský rybník and the Buxin. Since the stream often overflowed its banks during heavy rains, most of its course was regulated and protected by dams. As a result of this regulation, the Březový potok is navigable on the lower eleven kilometers from Babín.

The České Budějovice – Plzeň railway follows its course on the lower reaches of the stream. To the left of the mouth of the brook, the Kněží hora nature reserve extends, in which there is also the Slavic castle of the same name, Kněží hora. Opposite is the stone arch bridge Žižkův most ; it was created as a transfer of a trade route across the Březový potok shortly before its confluence with the Otava. Since the regulation of the Březový potok, the old bridge has stood in the dry old stream bed. It is a technical monument .
