history

Between 1230 and 1250 the ancestor of the Lev von Rosental family , Ulrich von Rosental from the von Busitz family ( Buzický z Buzic ) built his fortress on a hill above the former marshland. In later years this served the family as the seat of power and administration.

The castle was fortified by thick walls and bulwarks, and in the north it was protected by a pond. This also supplied the moats with water. The castle itself was only accessible via suspension bridges. In 1565 the fortress was converted into a castle, which included a large garden, next to it a chapel, a bakery, brewery, malt house, silos, beehives, a hop garden and a beer tavern.

In 1347, at the instigation of his wife , Sezem von Rosental donated half of the castle to the Archdiocese of Prague . During the Hussite Wars , the Rosentaler took advantage of the archbishopric's weakness and took back ownership of the entire castle and the lands.

In the 16th century the castle passed into the hands of the Bavarian noble family Griesberg von Griesbach. After the Battle of the White Mountain , the property of the non-Catholic family was confiscated and returned to the Archbishopric.

After 1623 a brewery was opened in the castle, the castle lost its importance as a mansion and deteriorated. The brewery was closed in 1941 and has not been used since then. Between 1949 and 1950, they renovated the building and made it available to their employees and workers as living space. From 1970, monument conservationists took care of the partly dilapidated buildings.

Most of the site is currently owned by a private person. The castle is not open all the time, but is open for special events.
