history

The concession for the Strakonitz – Březnitz local railway was awarded to the founders of the Strakonitz – Blatná – Březnitz local railway on September 21, 1896. The line was opened on June 11, 1899. The kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) operated for the owners.

In 1912 the timetable of the local railway indicated three mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains. They needed about two hours for the 50-kilometer route.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). With the nationalization of the local railway company from January 1, 1925, the infrastructure also belonged to the ČSD network.

With the use of modern motorized trains , travel times were significantly shortened at the end of the 1920s. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded up to seven pairs of 3rd class passenger trains, all of which ran as motorized trains. One of the trains ran to and from Zdice. The travel time on the Březnice – Strakonice route was around 90 minutes.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

As an innovation reversed in 1951 with a railcar -run express between Prague and Vimperk , who mastered the route Březnice-Strakonice with four stops in 70 minutes. This direct train connection between the Czechoslovak capital and the Bohemian Forest was only given up in the 1990s.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In the 2012 timetable, the route is served by passenger trains every two hours. On weekdays, additional trains condense the timetable to a sometimes one-hour cycle.
