Liddy Holloway

Elizabeth Brenda "Liddy" Holloway (born March 27, 1945 in Wellington , † December 29, 2004 in Auckland ) was a New Zealand actress and screenwriter .

life and career

The daughter of the politician Phil Holloway initially worked as a journalist for many years . Only after the birth of her third child did she turn to acting. She began performing in New Zealand theater and then got a role in the soap opera Prisoner , in which she starred from 1981 to 1984. She also wrote some scripts for the series.

From 1992 to 1998 she was a member of the regular cast of the soap opera Shortland Street and played the recurring role of Alcmene in the fantasy series Hercules . Furthermore, she worked in some international productions such as the comedy Trouble without paddles .

In 1996 she wrote the scripts for various episodes of series such as Prisoners , Seekers and City Life . Her work on early drafts of the script for the film Whale Rider led to a lawsuit in January 2004 with the NZ Film Commission, which had taken over the rights from a deceased producer and, contrary to previous agreements, refused to include Holloway in the film's credits.

On December 29, 2004, she died of liver cancer . She left three grown children, including the actor Joel Tobeck .
