Shortland Street is a New Zealand soap set in a modern hospital in the fictional Ferndale suburb of Auckland . It is New Zealand's longest running soap and made its debut on May 25, 1992. It is broadcast on TV2 , a free-to-air television channel operated by the state-run TVNZ . Since then it has been running from 7 p.m. on weekdays.

The soap has an average audience rating of 700,000 per episode. In Australia the series to be UK.TV in Ireland on RTÉ and in the regional program Central Television of the British ITV sent. The careers of many New Zealand actors have been linked to their success on the series, and many have only appeared in guest roles.
