history
Dub was first mentioned in 1274 as the seat of Vladiken Jeník von Borčice. Lhota (Dubská Lhota) has been documented since 1334; at that time this village belonged to the village of Bavorov . During the 14th century, the Rosenbergs acquired large areas around Dub. After they also inherited this from 1351, Ulrich I von Rosenberg had a new castle built in 1355, which was named Helfenburg from 1364 .
Dub retained its independence as a country nobility seat. The owners included u. a. from 1608 Pavel Kavka von Říčany, who had the fortress converted into a castle. He was followed in 1651 by Miroslav Markvart von Hrádek. After his death, the property was divided and reunited in 1689 by Karl Philipp Graf von Buquoy . Then the owners changed in quick succession. In 1839 Moritz Ritter Hönig von Henikstein bought Dub, which became an independent municipality after the patrimonial rule was abolished. The castle remained in the possession of the von Henikstein family until 1865, who had it redesigned in a neo-Gothic style. On October 29, 1869, Emperor Franz Joseph I. elevated Dub to a market town.
After the Second World War, the Bromovský family, who owned the chateau and its goods, were expropriated. During the communist rule, the castle was owned by the state and was run down. Privatization took place in the 1990s; a step-by-step reconstruction is currently taking place. Since 2006 Dub has the status of a Městys .
