Nové Hutě (German Kaltenbach ) is a municipality with 93 inhabitants (January 1, 2004) in the Czech Republic .

Nové Hutě is located eleven kilometers west of Vimperk at an altitude of 1025 m above sea level. M. in the Bohemian Forest at the Studený potok ( Kaltenbach ), a tributary of the Vydří potok ( Thierbach ). The town on the eastern slope of the 1,219 m high Přilba (Helmit) is a major winter sports center in the Czech Republic.

history

The village emerged from several glassmaking settlements in the valley of the Kaltenbach and the warm Vltava .

In 1686 the master glassworker Johann Pock built the first glassworks and settlement on the Kaltenbach, which also included the Schafferhof. Since the capacity of the Pock hut was insufficient, another glassworks was built before 1749 - the later Althütte. The third glassworks was the Biertopfhütte, founded in 1802; it was located in the valley of the Warm Vltava and was named after the beer pot rock ( Pivní hrnec ). Another glassworks was built on the Planie; it was leased to Franz Denk in 1788 and then to Ferdinand Abel until 1799. The glassmaking settlements of the parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Klein Zdikau were included. In 1818 the settlements were merged to form a municipality of Kaltenbach.

In 1825 Johann Meyr von Meyrswalden had a new glassworks built, which was called Neuhütte to distinguish it from the old one. After the Neuhütte was taken over by Meyr's Neffe , it was continued as Meyrhütte . In 1852 the owner of the Groß Zdikau manor , Franz von Thun and Hohenstein , founded the Franzensthal settlement on the Biertopf. On October 6, 1860, the entire parish in the German-speaking settlement area was changed to the parish church of St. Martin in Neugebäu. The Meyrhütte was demolished in 1876 and Michael Fuchs built a wood goods factory in its place. In 1887, the production of the Franzensthal glass factory also ended.

The group of houses Althütte, Bockhütte, Böhmhäuser, Franzensthal (partially), Froschau, Granitz, Planie and Neuhütte, also known as Unterkaltenbach, belonged to the scattered settlement of Kaltenbach. In 1930, predominantly German-speaking residents lived in the village in 1724. During the Second World War, Franzensthal had an underground manufacturing facility owned by Messerschmitt AG , which was built in 1941 in the former paper factory under the cover name Möbelwerke Franzensthal . In 1945 the community consisted of 215 houses. In 1945/46 most of the German-speaking residents were expelled. Today the place consists mostly of holiday homes.
