The Vydří potok (German Thierbach , also Dürrbach ) is a left tributary of the Warm Moldau / Teplá Vltava in the Czech Republic . Its entire course leads in a southerly direction, flowing through the moors Pasecká slať, Novosvětská slať ( Little King's Felt ) and Chalupská slať ( Big King's Felt ).

course

The Vydří potok rises two and a half kilometers northeast of Nové Hutě in the Bohemian Forest . Its source is on the western slope of the Hrb ( Buckelstein , 1074 m nm). The upper course of the stream leads past the single layer U Babůrka and the nature reserve "Najmanka" to the south, after which the Vydří potok is spanned by the state road II / 168 between Vimperk and Kvilda . The brook then flows through the Pasecká slať moor on its middle course in a shallow valley between Paseka ( Passeken ), Nové Hutě and České Chalupy ( Böhmhäuser ).

At Šindlov the stream flows into the Šumava National Park ; to the left of the Vydří potok is the natural monument "Pod Šindlovem". The lower reaches of the Vydří potok runs in a wide valley between the Zvěřín ( Schachtberg , 1133 mnm), the Janská hora ( forest crest , 1112 mnm) and the Kamenáč ( Martin Luther Mountain , 1048m nm) and the Kamenná ( Steinberg . 1101 mnm), the Bukovec (1099 mnm) and the Světlá hora ( Lichtenberg , 1123 mnm) through the Königsfilz. The upper part of this moor is formed by the Novosvětská sla Kleines ( Little King's Felt ), on the edge of which lies the town of Nový Svět ( Neugebäu ) and the deserted Granitz. To the south, below the confluence of the Zvěřinský potok, there is the Chalupská slať ( Great King's Felt ), in which there is the largest moor lake in the Czech Republic, the Chalupské jezírko, with an area of 1.3 hectares. Passing Hrabická Lada ( Rabitzerhaid ), Černá Lada ( Schwarzhaid ) and Svinná Lada ( Seehaid ), the Vydří potok flows after 8.5 kilometers at the southern end of the Königsfilzes, which is largely protected as a natural monument "Borová Lada" Borová Lada belonging single layer České Chalupy ( Bohemian houses ) in the warm Vltava.

history

The Vydří potok valley was settled late. In 1840 the Kaltenbach or Mayerhütte glassmaking settlement was established in the area where the Kaltenbach flows into the Thierbach . The Thierbachtal, which belonged to the dominions of Zdíkov and Krumau , could not be used for agriculture because of its wetness. After the establishment of further settlements along the valley, the drier parts of the valley were used as pastureland. The peat cutting began in Königsfilz around 1860. Since the end of the 19th century, the peat was also dried in bricks and sold as fuel. After the acquisition of the former Franzensthal glassworks by the Viennese entrepreneur Jakob Kraus and the conversion to a paper factory, peat brick production in Königsfilz and Seefilz experienced a great boom, the dried bricks were used as fuel. In the 20th century attempts were unsuccessful to drain the Chalupské jezírko by means of deep trenches to the Vydří potok. After the Franzensthal paper mill was shut down on April 1, 1930 as a result of the global economic crisis , sales of peat bricks fell drastically. After the " Aryanization " , the former paper mill from the Kraus family was put back into operation as "Möbelwerke Franzensthal AG", but instead of furniture, cabins were produced for Messerschmitt AG , so that there was no longer any need for peat bricks for firing . After the Second World War, peat cutting in Königsfilz was completely stopped in 1946. The following year, when it was very dry, a moor fire broke out, which affected the whole of the Kleiner Königsfilz and lasted for several months.
