Chalupská slať (German Großer Königsfilz ) is a raised bog in the Šumava Biosphere Reserve . It houses the largest moor lake in the Czech Republic with 1.3 hectares .
geography
The nature reserve is located at an altitude of 897–920 m north of Borová Lada and has a size of 240 hectares. The Warm Vltava runs to the south-west , into which the Vydří potok flows, in whose valley the moor lies.
The peat layer reaches a thickness of up to 7 m and an estimated volume of 2,340,000 m³. The moor lake itself has an area of 1.3 hectares. The actual Chalupská sla Moor moor, with 137 hectares of peat area, makes up the largest part of the nature reserve, the rest belongs to the smaller, northern Novosvětská slať.
Flora and fauna
Chalupská slať is characterized by floating islands and swinging lawns , as well as typical moor fauna such as. B. Round-leaved sundew , dwarf birch , rushes or rosemary heather . The upland moor can also be found here.
history
In the 19th century, mainly peat was cut in the bog , which caused damage to some parts of the bog. A 260 m long boardwalk has existed since 1974, leading to the lake shore in the middle of the moor and through which the otherwise inaccessible moor can be viewed. With the establishment of the Šumava National Park, the moor became part of Zone I, which contains natural biotopes that are particularly worthy of protection.
