Julien Vermote (born July 26, 1989 in Kortrijk ) is a Belgian road cyclist .
Julien Vermote was Belgian champion in road racing in the youth class in 2004 . In the 2007 season he won the prologue in the junior class at the Ster van Zuid-Limburg, the two one-day races Flanders-Europe Classic Geraardsbergen and Ledegem-Kemmel-Ledegem, the overall classification at Sint-Martinusprijs Kontich and a stage at Keizer of Juniores Koksijde. From 2008 Vermote drove in the U23 class. Here he won a section each at Le Triptyque des Monts et Châteaux and at the Tweedaagse van de Gaverstreek. He was also successful at Zillebeke-Westouter-Zillebeke. In the 2009 season he won the Trofee van Haspengouw, a stage in the Tour du Haut Anjou and was Belgian U23 champion in the individual time trial .
In 2011, Vermote signed a contract with the Quick Step team . The following year he won the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen race . In 2014 he and his team won the team time trial at the World Road Championships in Ponferrada and a stage of the Tour of Britain . In 2016 he became world champion in the team time trial . Beyond his individual successes, Vermote is an important helper on sprint stages, whose task it is to keep the lead of outliers within limits and to reduce it in the end.
His brother Alphonse Vermote was also a cyclist . He was the Belgian junior champion in the team pursuit on the track in 2008 , and he won a stage at Keizer of the Juniores Koksijde.
