In Berni rula are for Pěčnovo two Chaluppen listed with six residents. In the fires of 1697 and 1703, the village, known as Pěčínov since 1676, was destroyed except for one house. In 1720 the place was called Peitschnau and in 1790 as Bietschnau . The name of the place was passed down as Píčnov from 1840 .
After the abolition of patrimonial Píčnov became a municipality, which was renamed Píšnov in 1854 . In the village fire of 1879, 19 houses burned down. The current place name Pěčnov has been used since 1903. In the 1920s, the place had 178 inhabitants, the largest population in its history. In 1930 Pěčnov consisted of 28 houses in which 139 people lived.
In 1961 it was incorporated into Chlumany and on July 1, 1980 together with the latter to Vlachovo Březí ; since November 24, 1990 Pěčnov forms a municipality again.
