The Dálnice 4 ( Czech for "Autobahn 4") is a motorway in the Czech Republic which leads from Prague to Nová Hospoda near Písek . Their planned total length will be around 86 km. Currently (September 2010) around 50 km are in operation, 41 km of which are developed as a motorway. As a four-lane motorway, it can be driven on 32 kilometers at a top speed of 130 km / h. Vignettes and tolls apply on the entire route . Until December 31, 2015 it was classified as an expressway and was named Rychlostní silnice 4 .
In the Zbraslav district of Prague there is a dangerous, barely secured pedestrian crossing over the motorway, which is why the motorway officially only begins shortly after the Prague city limits in Jíloviště. In this area, the maximum speed is limited to 50 km / h, which is often not adhered to.
Building history
In the 1970s, the first 9.5 km between Prague and Jíloviště was built. However, these are not developed as expressways. A 32 km long extension to Skalka was then built as an expressway until the 1980s. On November 19, 2007, the plan-free intersection between I / 20 and R4 at Nová Hospoda near Strakonice was completed.
On April 22, 2008, construction of the 5.88 km long Mirotice - Třebkov section and the connection of the R4 to the I / 20 began. The section opened on September 16, 2010. The construction costs for this section amounted to 1.1 billion CZK (approx. 45 million euros)
In the years 2010 to 2012 the sections Skalka - connection road II / 118 (4.79 km, construction from July 2009 to June 2011, costs 825 million CZK / approx. 33 million euros), Lety - Čimelice (2, 59 km, completion 10/2012 costs 585 million CZK / approx. 23 million euros), as well as Vimperk - Solná Lhota (4.5 km, I / 4, 2 lanes). From 2011 onwards, the Čimelice - Mirotice (8.46 km, completion 2014, cost 2.5 billion CZK / approx. 100 million euros) and Milín - Lety (11.6 km, completion 2015, cost 2.2 Billion CZK / approx. 88 million euros). Between April 2012 and June 2015 a 5.7 km long and 1.3 billion CZK / approx. A section costing 52 million euros will be built.
Expansion plans
Currently, of the Czech side in the discussion whether a southern continuation up to the border with Germany and connection to the local national highway 12 , which today only as a simple country road 4 ( Silnice I / 4 exists), or an eastern continuation of Ceske Budejovice on the route of the I / 20 should give. The route towards Germany would cross the Bohemian Forest nature reserve. However, the Czech Nature Conservation Act 114/92 of 1992 would prohibit such an expansion.
