During Operation Ellaa'lan on October 22, 2007, twenty-one elite Black Tiger commandos penetrated the heart of the Sri Lankan Air Force Base in Anuradhapura and destroyed eight aircraft, including helicopters, a reconnaissance aircraft and a training aircraft. At around 4:30 a.m., Air Tigers aircraft intervened in support of the ground command. They returned safely to their base in the Vanni when their mission was complete . However, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defense claimed only three helicopters were damaged, 13 air force soldiers were killed and 18 injured.
