  • The Dálnice D8 is a Czech motorway in Central and Northern Bohemia as part of the international road connection Berlin – Dresden – Prague and the European route 55 .

    description

This motorway, together with the German A17, connects the cities of Dresden and Prague . The route is part of the pan-European traffic corridor  IV from Berlin to Istanbul . In official publications, the connection between Prague and Dresden is also referred to as Via Porta Bohemica (Street of the Bohemian Gate).

    history

The 45 km long section between Prague and Lovosice ( Lobositz ) -Východ (East) was put into operation in sections between 1990 and 2000; Europastraße 55 also runs on it . The 23.4 km long route from Trmice ( Türmitz ) near Ústí nad Labem ( Aussig ) to the Czech-German border with a connection to the A17 to Dresden was opened to traffic on December 21, 2006.

Since the section between Trmice (Türmitz) and Řehlovice (Großtschochau) as the Teplice – Ústí nad Labem expressway ( E 442 , Silnice I / 63 , former Rychlostní silnice R63) was completed in 1988, only the one was missing for a continuous motorway connection Dresden – Prague 16.4 km long section from Lovosice-Východ to Řehlovice. The construction of this route was delayed because the route cuts through a valuable nature reserve in the Bohemian Central Uplands and financial resources for the construction of a longer tunnel were not available.

In April 2007, the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic rejected a major objection from citizens' initiatives against the section in the Central Bohemian Uplands Nature Reserve, against which no objection was possible. This enabled the Czech Motorway Directorate ŘSD to submit the application for a building permit for the controversial section to the district administrative authority of Ústecký kraj . At first it was not possible to acquire all the land required for the alignment.

In October 2007, construction began on the penultimate section from Lovosice -západ to Bílinka , which should be opened in 2011. However, the technical documents for the noise protection bridge near Vchynice differed from the actual construction, so that a new building permit had to be obtained and the already completed section could not yet be opened. The section was opened to traffic on May 14, 2012.

According to a ruling by the District Court of Ústí nad Labem in 2012, all permits to build the D8 were illegal because the population was not heard. On the other hand, on April 20, 2012, an objection by the environmentalists Dětí země (Children of the Earth) was rejected. After this decision was not contradicted within the 14-day period, building permission has existed since May 7, 2012. The official in charge in Ústí Jiří Šulc stated that the pending construction of the 11 km line could be completed within 30 months, as the tunnels and bridges had been completed. This meant that the rest of the section could have been fully commissioned in December 2014. On July 25, 2012, the district court in Usti nad Labem overturned a decision by the district office to build the D8 towards the German border. As a result, the construction work was temporarily stopped on July 27, 2012. On August 15, 2012 the district office in Ústí nad Labem again rejected the objection of an environmental association against the routing of the D8. Construction work resumed on August 31, 2012.

However, on June 7, 2013, a landslide between Dobkovičky and Prackovice buried the already started route, so that the completion was delayed further. The work on the motorway route through the Bohemian Central Uplands practically came to a standstill. Czech Transport Minister Antonin Prachar also resigned as a result of this matter.

The last section of the motorway was opened on December 17, 2016.

    Construction stages

    0801: Zdiby - Úžice (0.0 km - 9.6 km)

This section has a length of 9.6 km. The motorway begins on the northern outskirts of Prague and merges seamlessly from the Prosecká radiála into the D8. The section was completed in October 1990 and commissioned three years later on July 23, 1993.

    Construction costs

The Audit Office of the Czech Republic ( Nejvyšší kontrolní úřád , NKU) criticized the Czech Ministry of Transport in Prague for seriously exceeding the construction costs on sections of the D8 motorway. As a result of poor planning, for example, the costs of the Trmice – state border D-CZ section have risen from originally 1.1 billion euros to 1.5 billion euros, according to the NKU report for 2006. Increases of 33% are as in the case mentioned "Alarming", criticized the supervisory authority.
