The Panenská tunnel ( German  Jungferntunnel ) is the longest road tunnel in the Czech Republic with a length of 2,140 m. It is almost at the end of the D 8 motorway on the section from Trmice (Türmitz) to the border with Germany. Construction work began in September 2003 and commissioning took place on December 21, 2006.

The tunnel system has two lanes in each direction of travel in two separate tubes, which are connected by ten safety corridors at a distance of 200 m. The middle corridor allows fire brigade and ambulance to pass through. The tunnel system is computer controlled. Temperature measuring points are distributed over the entire length of the tunnel. If the temperature rises, the report is sent to the control center in Řehlovice (Groß Tschochau). In the event of an alarm, the fire brigade will be called in at the road maintenance depot not far from the Petrovice exit . A tunnel smoke extraction system starts automatically and traffic is diverted out of the tunnel using signs.

The entire tunnel is cleaned every two months.

The construction costs of all structures (including viaducts) amounted to CZK 4.2 billion (approx. € 155.0 million).

The Maiden bridge (length 264 m) follows the south portal; The north portal is followed by the Petrovice motorway exit, then the state border with Germany.
